How can I get The Sims 5 for free?
You’re probably here, because you are wondering how you can get The Sims 5 for free.
To give a clear and perhaps not so satisfying answer: at the moment (summer 2022), The Sims 5 is not available yet.
So will the fifth generation be available for free soon? Once the game has been released, it’s most likely not going to be available for free either, or perhaps for a very short time only. This may not be the answer you’ve hoped for, but it’s the honest answer.
Why will The Sims 5 probably not be available without costing anything, you may ask?
It’s mainly because game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) and game developer Maxis are commercial companies who need to make money in order to continue developing games, to pay their employees, offices and other things.
Not only that, but EA is also listed at the stock exchange, so investors and shareholders would want to make money from their investments.
So now you know why the game will probably not be available free of charge! If it ever becomes available for free at some point, we will definitely post details and instructions here on this site.
We strongly suggest to stay away from downloading games via Torrents, cracked software and other illegal ways. You may install viruses or malware on your computer without even knowing it.

Can I download The Sims 5 for free?
Many Simmers are wondering whether it’s possible to download the game The Sims 5 for free.
Currently (summer 2022), The Sims 5 is not available yet. Once the game has been released (likely in 2023 or 2024), it will probably not be possible to download any of the base games and expansion packs, for free. Or at least not legally. In the section above, we’ve explained why the game isn’t going to be available without costing anything.
We know, this is perhaps not the most satisfying answer. Don’t worry though! We will constantly share updates on where you can get Sims 5 games cheaply. This will allow you to save money!

Can I play The Sims 5 online without paying anything?
The Sims 5 is currently (summer 2022) not available yet. EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, said that the next generation of The Sims will include “social interactions and competition” elements, and they are thinking about adding a “cloud-enabled world” as well.
As Maxis continues to think about The Sims for a new generation – across platforms and a cloud-enabled world, you should imagine while we will always stay true to our inspiration, escape, creation, self-improvement, motivations – that this notion of social interactions and competition like the kind of things that were actually present in The Sims Online many, many years ago – that they will start to become part of ongoing Sims experience in the years to come.
— Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts
This means that the fifth generation could probably be played online, just like The Sims Online and FreeSO back in the days.
However, because online games are costly to develop and maintain, due to servers that need to store and process data, it is very unlikely that they will be able to offer The Sims 5 Online for free. The game will probably cost some money, either as a one-time purchase or as a monthly subscription.
These things have not be confirmed yet, so please keep an eye out on our site for updates.
Will The Sims 5 base games and expansions ever be made available for free?
In general, we expect that The Sims 5 base games and expanion packs will not be offered for free, at least not legally. However, in the past, The Sims 4 was available for free for only 48 hours. It was a way for EA to get more people to download their game, hoping that they’d buy expansion packs.
If you want to play the fifth generation immediately after its launch, it probably won’t be available for free for a longer period of time. In other words: if you want to play The Sims 5, you will need to purchase it.
There is a chance that EA will make it possible to download the base game of The Sims 5 at no cost during a limited window of time. But it’s really hard to predict if this will ever happen, and how long it will last. Expansion packs (DLC) will most certainly never be available without costing anything.
Some sites and YouTubers claim that you can download The Sims 5 for free. Is this true?
There are many sites and YouTubers out there claiming that you can already download The Sims 5 games for free, but they are not telling the truth.
We want to make sure that all Simmers know that The Sims 5 is NOT available yet at the moment (summer 2022). Do not believe any of those sites where you see download buttons or links.
(add images of examples)
These sites shown in the image are not offering any free or paid games for download. They often might want to infect computers with viruses or malware, for whatever reason. They might be trying to steal your money in a sneaky manner. So please, be mindful! The Sims 5 is not even available at the moment.
Once The Sims 5 is finally officially released, it will probably not be possible to download it for free legally anyway, so be careful!
We strongly recommend that you always look for reliable sources and web shops. These include Origin, Steam, Amazon, MMOGA, CDKeys and others. By purchasing games through these platforms and sites, you will always receive a legal and unique serial code (license key) that you can use to redeem, activate and play the games that you’ve purchased.
How can I download The Sims 5?
As mentioned earlier, The Sims 5 is not yet available at this moment (summer 2022)! However, it is expected that the game will become available through EA’s game platform Origin soon, and possibly on Steam as well. This is where you can download, install and play the game.
When the game is available, you will be able to buy it from various platforms and sites. Some of them will probably be cheaper than Origin and Steam, like Amazon or CD key sites. And it’s all completely legal. Once the game comes out, we’ll share some tutorials to help you get started.
Web shops like Amazon and CD key stores often offer big discounts and they have regular sales. This makes The Sims 5 games more affordable and, most importantly, it lets you save money. It will probably not be possible to download these games free of charge via these platforms.
EA and Maxis may also offer the fifth generation via their Origin subscription service called EA Play. This is yet to be confirmed. By paying a monthly membership fee (which is about $5 – $15 USD or €5 – €15 euros per month depending on the subscription plans), you can download as many games from Origin as you like, including their newest releases.
Will there be a demo/trial version of The Sims 5?
Many Simmers wonder if there will be a free demo or trial version of The Sims 5 for download. This question is totally understandable, as it’s always good to try something out first before actually buying it.
Back in 2014, EA and Maxis introduced a Create A Sim (CAS) demo of The Sims 4 before the game was launched, which allowed players to test out an early beta version of the game. Many fans really enjoyed having early access to this part of the game.
The Sims 3 also had an official demo version of the base game available, as well as a Create A Pet (CAP) demo, where players could create dogs, cats and even horses.
There is a good chance that EA and Maxis will also release a demo or trial version of The Sims 5. We just need to wait for an official confirmation!
Will there be micro-transactions in The Sims 5?
One question that comes back a lot in the Sims community is about micro-transactions in The Sims 5. Many Simmers are wondering whether this will be included in the fifth generation. Some Simmers like this idea, some others don’t.
The older mobile Sims game The Sims FreePlay had optional micro-transactions. The game itself was free to play, but it had an in-game store where players could purchase digital in-game items, such as furniture, clothing, hairstyles and more in return for real money.
Because of criticisms from within the Sims community, we don’t think The Sims 5 will be focusing heavily on micro-transactions. EA and Maxis simply cannot afford to make the same mistake again. We do believe that there will be proper expansion packs for the game. They can be purchased from various online stores, including as Origin and Amazon.
It cannot be completely ruled out that there may not be any in-game options for downloading additional content. If this idea becomes reality, it will probably be optional.
Freebies: free content updates for The Sims 5
Even though the base version of the game, as well as expansion packs, will probably not be available for free, it is expected that EA and Maxis will continue to bring out free content updates for the game. In The Sims 4 pools, toddlers and other cost-free content updates were added later on.
Besides that, they’ve also released many downloadable updates for the game, to improve the gameplay and fix bugs. And best of all, these updates with new stuff don’t cost any money at all!
The Sims 5 will probably also support mods and CC (Custom Content) again, whichs means that there is yet another way to get free content, created by fans, for your game.
If The Sims 5 games won’t be available for free, then how much will they cost?
At this moment (in 2022), pricing details for The Sims 5 haven’t been confirmed yet. Looking at earlier installments of The Sims, it is expected that the standard version of the The Sims 5 core game will cost somewhere between $40 – $60 USD (or approximately €40 – €60 euros) at launch, based on EA’s recommended price. This may vary depending on the country you live in.
Other full versions of the base game will most likely be a bit more expensive. In case there will be a Limited Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, Premium Edition or a Collector’s Edition, prices will range between $40 – $80 USD each (which equals €40 – €80 euros).
Expansion packs will probably be a bit cheaper compared to base games, with an estimated cost of $15 – $40 USD (about €15 – €40 euros) per expansion pack, depending on the content that’s included.
Bigger expansions will probably cost around $30 – $40 USD (about €30 – €40 euros). In case there will be smaller add-ons like game packs or stuff packs, they might cost between $15 – $20 USD (approximately 15-20 euros) per pack.
Where can I get cheap The Sims 5 games?
As we’ve already discussed, it’s unlikely that The Sims 5 games would be made available for free. So now you probably wonder: where can I download base games and expansion packs cheaply?
At the moment (summer 2022), The Sims 5 is not available yet. When the game is available for pre-order, we will definitely share more information about cheap games on our site and social media channels.
We will also provide a price comparison overview, so you know where you can buy and download games at discounted prices. One thing to note is that Sims games usually become cheaper as time goes by. If you buy them when they’re newly released, they might be priced at around $30 – $40 USD (€30 – € 40 euros) but after a few years they could be sold for only $10 USD (€10 euros).
There will probably be sales and deals regularly, so you can get these games for a bargain price.

The Sims 4 was available for free for just 48 hours, will this happen again with The Sims 5?
Back in 2015, something very special happened. The base game of The Sims 4 was made available for free, only for just 48 hours in total. This was something that was never done before.
EA and Maxis came up with this idea in an effort to get more people hooked on the game, hoping that they would buy more expansion packs. This was actually the only time ever The Sims 4 was legally available for free.
Now you’re probably wondering: will this also happen when the fifth generation arrives? We’re guessing that this probably won’t be happening any time soon after the release. It might happen a few years after that, but we wouldn’t wait for that long to start playing the game.
Watch out for “fake” free The Sims 5 downloads
We just want to remind and warn all Simmers who are looking for ways to download The Sims 5 games for free. There are many “fake” sites claiming that you can download games through their sites or platforms. However, most of them are not legitimate at all!
A great deal of these sites contain a lot of fake news and false rumors as well. It definitely sounds suspicious when you see headlines like “100% Working”, “Download PC Game Full Version Free”, or “License Key Origin Crack”.
Some sites claim that The Sims 5 has been leaked already. Some other sites offer so-called cracks or Torrents. When you click a link or button on these sites, you might install viruses or malware onto your computer, even without knowing it. And above all: it’s not legal either.
Be careful, as The Sims 5 has not been released yet. It’s definitely not possible to get the game for free at this moment. The game will probably not be free after the official release either.
For now, we just need to wait for the official announcement of the fifth generation.
When is The Sims 5 actually coming out?
Many Simmers are wondering: when is The Sims 5 actually going to be released? It’s not an easy question to answer.
Just to be clear: EA and Maxis have not confirmed anything regarding the official release date of the game yet. It will most likely not come out in 2022, as there are usually at least 6 up to 12 months between the announcement of a completely new generation and the actual release.
That being said, we think it’s very likely that the game will be released in 2023 or 2024. 2024 is exactly 10 years since the launch of The Sims 4, so it seems like a good way to celebrate the release of a new installment.
It can be seen from the lifespan of each of these earlier Sims generations that they last between 5 and 7 years maximum. Right now, we’re well into The Sims’ fourth life cycle, so The Sims 5 could be coming out sooner rather than later!
On what platforms will The Sims 5 be released?
It is expected that The Sims 5 will become available on PC (Windows) and Mac (Apple).
There is also a possibility that there may be a console version for PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X. The Sims 5 will probably not be released on PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One, because they are older consoles.
An Android (APK) app version for mobile is likely not going to happen. Unfortunately, we don’t think that the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch either.
